Local officials participate in forum on race issues

A online panel discussion on the topic of race relations was held via Google Zoom on Tuesday, June 22nd. Panelists included New York State Senator, Kevin Thomas and assemblywoman, Taylor Darling, who represents the County’s 18th district. Other panelists included Kevin McKenna of the TOB News, Scottie Coads, who represents the NAACP and Oscar Canales of the LIISA (Long Island Immigrant Student Advocates.) The moderators of the forum were Gil Bernardino and Dr. Sarah Brewster.
Senator Thomas said he has a nineteen month old at home and that when she gets older, he wants her to know that she was growing up during the country’s second civil rights movement.
“During the first civil rights movement, people were working to bring about change in our country and that is what is happening now,” said Thomas. “I believe this a monumental and very important moment in our country’s history.”
