ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Cooney, a Greece Democrat, is introducing a measure designed to make it safer for witnesses of homicides to come forward.

Cooney talked about his idea on Monday on the corner of North and Herald Streets - the spot where 14-year-old Julius Greer Jr. was shot and killed earlier in January.

If the legislation is passed, prosecutors would be able to shield the identities of any witness that comes forward. Cooney argues this could help, as people often don't come forward due to fear of retaliation.

Cooney hopes it could solve more cases.
