WAWAYANDA – State Senator James Skoufis (D, Cornwall) has amassed over 1,000 signatures from Orange County residents who are objecting to the proposed Amazon Wawayanda project.

Specifically, they do not agree with the project receiving a property tax abatement from the county Industrial Development Agency.

In a letter to Brian Sanvidge, the state appointed monitor that oversees the IDA, Skoufis noted that “one of the criteria the Orange County IDA failed to sufficiently consider when it approved the 15-year, $80.2 million PILOT… was demonstrated public support.”
In contrast to what Skoufis called the PILOT’s “significant opposition, there is “trace support” for the project.
