STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Public officials on Staten Island unveiled a new “Digital Jury Trial Courtroom,” a pilot program for New York State aimed at modernizing the justice system.

A unique public-private funding model secured over $1 million

The project was made possible through a unique funding partnership that Chief Administrative Judge Joseph A. Zayas hopes will become a model for the rest of the state. A bipartisan group of local elected officials — including District Attorney Michael E. McMahon, Borough President Vito Fossella, Council Member Kamillah Hanks, state Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, and Assemblyman Charles D. Fall — secured over $1 million in funds. This amount was then matched by the New York State Judiciary, effectively doubling the investment in the borough’s court system.
