Staten Island student wins more than $35,000 in prize money at national business competition

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A Staten Island high school student has been named “America’s Next Top Young Entrepreneur” after winning a national competition with her innovative solution for menstrual pain.
Anna Lau, founder and CEO of Snugshi — a heated, weighted, rechargeable stuffed animal designed to provide discreet period pain relief — recently took the top prize at the Young Entrepreneurs Academy competition, a national program that transforms local students into confident entrepreneurs.
The program — which is hosted locally by the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce and encourages students to generate business ideas, conduct market research, write business plans and pitch to a panel of investors — is now in its 11th year in the borough and has guided over 200 students. It is supported annually by Con Edison, State Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, Councilmember David Carr, and other sponsors.
