Spectrum In-Focus: Breaking Down the PROTECT Act
This weekend on In Focus, JoDee Kenney sits down with state Sen. Pam Helming to talk about the PROTECT Act. Helming says a number of amendments have been made since it was passed in 2019 and have made more crimes bail eligible. Helming stresses the main focus of the bill is it applies dangerousness and probability of reoffending over whether a person can afford bail. Helming says innocent people are being victimized and that as state legislators we can make a simple change to keep repeat offenders off the street and to help some of these repeat offenders who need mental health services connect with those services. She continues that the Protect Act gives judges and the courts the tools they need.
