Helping residents access state services
Every month, dozens of residents from Cheektowaga, Lackawanna, and Buffalo reach out to my office looking for help navigating a variety of issues. Whether it’s a phone call, an email, or a letter, these conversations are a reminder of why I do this work and how overwhelming it can feel when you’re trying to get help and don’t know where to turn. Too often, government can feel confusing or out of reach for the citizens it is meant to help.
As your State Senator, my office is here to serve as a resource and advocate for District 63 residents. While we are a legislative office focused on passing laws and shaping policy, a significant part of our day-to-day work is helping connect constituents to the services and support they need. We may not be able to solve every issue directly, but we can help point you in the right direction and work with state agencies to get answers.
When I was a young mother, I remember feeling overwhelmed trying to access government resources and programs like SNAP, childcare subsidies, and HEAP to keep my family afloat. That experience has stayed with me, and it continues to shape how I approach my job as a state legislator. My office is here to make sure residents don’t have to figure everything out on their own.
My team regularly assists constituents with a wide range of issues. That includes helping people secure unemployment benefits, navigate health insurance access, and get connected to housing programs and assistance.
Recently, my office helped a retired law enforcement officer secure an adjustment to their pension. We assisted a local small business owner with obtaining a necessary license. We’ve worked with many constituents who were experiencing delays or complications with their tax refunds, helping them finally receive the money they were owed. And we regularly assist local veterans in getting access to the benefits they earned while serving our country.
While these are just a few examples, they illustrate my and my staff’s commitment to making government work for the people. It shouldn’t be a maze to access the services you’ve paid into and depend on. But when you run into a roadblock, you deserve someone in your corner who will listen and help you find a path forward.
If you or another constituent you know in Cheektowaga, Lackawanna, or Buffalo needs assistance, I encourage you to contact my office. We are here to help however we can.
