Staten Island officials blast Mayor Mamdani’s decision to open NYC public schools Tuesday

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — It’s back to school Tuesday for New York City public school kids despite the historic snow storm.

Borough President Vito Fossella, State Sen. Andrew Lanza, State Sen. Jessica Scarcella-Spanton, Assemblymember Michael Reilly, Assemblymember Michael Tannousis, Assemblymember Sam Pirozzolo, and the Island’s delegation to the City Council — Councilmember Kamillah Hanks, Councilmember David Carr, and Councilmember Frank Morano — all blasted Mamdani for announcing public schools’ reopening, particularly on hard-hit Staten Island.

“I urge city leadership to prioritize the safety of New Yorkers and keep school buildings closed tomorrow,” Scarcella-Spanton, a Democrat representing the North Shore and South Brooklyn, wrote on Facebook.
