New York State Senator Michelle Hinchey, along with New York State Assembly members Didi Barrett and Anil Beephan and co-sponsor New York State Senator Rob Rolison, announced a proposed bill on Feb. 21 they said would close the background check loophole in state law for children participating in any afterschool activities.

The bill would amend state law to also include employees, volunteers and business operators who regularly serve children in other settings, including martial arts studios, music schools, dance studios, gymnastics schools, tutoring or academic enrichment centers or sports training facilities.
