Senator Rob Rolison proudly represents New York’s 39th Senate District, serving communities across Dutchess, Putnam and Orange Counties in the Hudson Valley.
Since taking office, Senator Rolison has advanced legislation now signed into law to protect families, strengthen communities, and improve the quality of life across New York. His accomplishments include closing domestic violence loopholes through the passage of Melanie’s Law, enhancing environmental protection of the Hudson River as a co-sponsor of the Protect the Hudson Act and advocating for utility and energy tax relief to help make life more affordable for Hudson Valley residents and businesses. He has also championed efforts to expand flexible, accessible childcare options to better support working families and provide relief for seniors.
Before serving in the State Senate, Senator Rolison was elected Mayor of the City of Poughkeepsie, serving two terms and leading the city through a major fiscal turnaround, including closing a $10 million fund balance deficit. He also served on the Dutchess County Legislature, representing the City and Town of Poughkeepsie, including as Chairman.
Senator Rolison began his career in public service as a volunteer firefighter with the Croft Corners Fire Department in 1976 and joined the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department in 1982. Over a 26-year law enforcement career, he served in the Patrol Division and spent 14 years as a Detective.
A lifelong Poughkeepsie resident, Senator Rolison attended Marist College, studying criminal justice. He raised his son, Christopher, in the community, and continues to call it home, residing in Poughkeepsie with his wife, Lori, and enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, Alena and Jay, and dog, Madison.
