Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today announced that the Cities of Newburgh and Kingston will receive state funding to develop strategies for the cleanup and reuse of area brownfields.

"This latest round of brownfield clean-up grants is great news for our local cities and their surrounding areas," said Senator Larkin. "Our localities will use this funding to develop plans for the remediation of these contaminated sites. One by one, we can remove the environmental and public health threats brownfields can cause and convert these wasted properties into productive businesses."

The City of Newburgh has been awarded $197,500 to complete a Nomination Study for an approximate 370-acre area with 140 potential brownfield sites located in the City's southeast portion on the Hudson River.

The City of Kingston has been awarded $72,000 to complete an Implementation Strategy for an area with at least 27 potential brownfield sites located primarily east of the Rondout business district along the Rondout and Hudson River waterfronts.
