“Black history month is a time for reflection—both on the people and events of the past that allow us to celebrate today and to evaluate our hopes and goals for the future,” Senator Klein said. “It is for this reason that I have always marked this month with a celebration honoring the richness and diversity that contributes to the great strength of our community.”

The individuals, businesses, and organizations receiving awards were nominated by their peers for their outstanding personal commitments to the communities they serve. In addition to the awards presentations, the program included an invocation and blessing of the food from Rev. Frank E. Coleman, Jr. of Shiloh Baptist Church in Tuckahoe, NY and a presentation of colors by the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps from Mount Vernon High School. Also performing were, Impact Repertory Theater which is a Harlem-based performing arts & youth leadership organization under the guidance of celebrated producer Voza Rivers, the Mount Vernon Intergeneration Choir, and the Preston High School Step Team.

This is Senator Klein’s 12^th Black History Month, which he first began as a New York State Assemblyman in 1994.
