Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) today announced the New York State Senate has passed legislation (S.2475) sponsored by Larkin that would allow farmers to sell their agricultural products at certain publicly owned highway rest stops, scenic overlook or vista rest areas, and park & ride parking lots.

"Under current law, only veterans of the armed forces can sell merchandise on public streets and highways," said Senator Larkin. "This bill would add local farmers to that classification so that they too could increase the sales of their New York grown products. This idea makes sense for both consumers and our local growers. People returning home in the evening can conveniently stop and pick up items for dinner, and at the same time, home grown products would be easily marketed, and profits would increase for struggling farm owners."

The bill now goes to the Assembly.
