Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently delivered opening remarks at the William T. Rogers Middle School’s Student Government “Meet the Candidates” event. The assembly provided the candidates an opportunity to discuss their thoughts with their fellow students, who will vote during the upcoming school week.
Prior to the speeches from the candidates, Senator Flanagan discussed his role in the state government and his motivation for his career in public service with the students.
He also commended the young men and women who are running for office at the school for wanting to serve their classmates: “I am quite impressed by these young candidates and wish them all the greatest success in this election and in the future. It was an honor for me to have the opportunity to take part in seeing democracy in action at the school. This is a great way to teach students about the importance of voting and to also give them a voice in how their school is run,” stated Senator Flanagan.
