Senator Kenneth P. LaValle (at podium) commended J. Kings Food Service for its success in bringing local produce to over 300 Long Island schools and universities, and for enabling local restaurants to feature home grown produce on their menus.
Senator LaValle has long-been an advocate of providing nutritional foods in our schools and several years ago passed a Resolution encouraging school districts to adopt recommendations to include more plant-based choices on their lunch menus. The Resolution also suggested a local farm-to-school programs that could provide the freshest produce, while helping sustain our local agricultural industry.
“I applaud J. Kings Food Service for supporting our farm industry and making it possible for fresh, local produce to be served in our schools,” said Senator LaValle. “It is my hope that, as young students become more aware of the nutritional value of their meal selections, they will soon be choosing fruits and vegetables over fatty foods and sugary desserts.”
