NYS Senator Eric Adams joined his colleagues in the Senate to announce another major victory for New York families and their children: passage of S3296H, strict measures to control the manufacture and sale of child products containing BPA. 

NYS Senator Eric Adams states: “The State Senate has approved legislation prohibiting the manufacture, distribution, and sale of certain child products containing bisphenol-A (BPA). The law bans the use of BPA in products intended for children three years of age or under, targeting items such as pacifiers, unfilled beverage containers, baby bottles, baby bottle liners and cups, cup lids, straws, and ‘sippy’ cuts. Provisions specify civil penalties for violations.” 

BPA is an estrogen-mimicking endocrine disrupter chemical used in the production of epoxy resins and polycarbonate plastics, and is the main ingredient in hard polycarbonate plastics. BPA has been linked to breast and prostate cancer, early-onset puberty, and polycystic ovary syndrome. 

NYS Senator Eric Adams states further: “BPA disrupts child development. This bill significantly reduces the risk posed by these chemicals, protecting children against exposure in their early years.”
