Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently hosted Gail Lizardy King of Dix Hills in Albany to honor her selection as Ms. Senior America 2009. During her visit, Ms. King was given a tour of the Capitol building which included a visit to the historic Red Room where she met Governor David Paterson.
The visit to Albany was capped off for this former Sachem High School North teacher when she was honored with a New York State resolution sponsored by Senator Flanagan. After the resolution was introduced and adopted in the Senate Chamber, she was recognized by all of the members of the New York State Senate.
Ms. King currently volunteers in two emergency room hospitals and, as a 35-year breast cancer survivor, works as a model and fundraiser for the Carol Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Foundation and animal rescue work. In addition, Ms. King has started a second career as an actress and model after a thirty-five year career in education.
“Ms. King’s spirit is truly inspiring and it is my hope that she enjoyed her visit to the state capital as much as I enjoyed hosting her. Her dedication to her fellow New Yorkers is an example for everyone in our state. She is a tremendous inspiration for all of us and I wish her all the best during her reign,” stated Senator Flanagan.
