Senator Serrano and the community celebrated Tenants Association Family Day in the Roberto Clemente State Park on Saturday to honor the association for their hard work in strengthening tenants’ rights and preserving at-risk affordable housing. Serrano presented the President of the Tenants Association, Leon Johnson, with a proclamation to thank him for his dedication and hard work.
"Through leadership, grassroots mobilization and education, the Tenant Association is building a strong organization that harnesses tenants’ rights," said Senator Serrano. "With thousands of rent regulated apartments lost every year from vacancy decontrol, we have worked together to ensure that preserving affordable housing is a top priority in the Senate. I applaud Mr. Johnson and the Tenant Association for protecting hard working middle and low income families from losing their homes and strengthening our rent laws."
Senator Serrano took this picture with Mrs. Mitchel, a tenant who is 106 years old.
