Senator Serrano joined City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, New York City Council Members, other state legislators, and a number of immigrant and civil rights advocates in front of New York City Hall to denounce Arizona’s SB1070, which would require police to check the immigration status of those they believe are under suspicion of being in the country illegally.
“The eyes of the world are on Arizona,” said Senator Serrano. “Each of these families deserves the opportunity to seek citizenship, like so many of our ancestors, and to live the American dream. Unfortunately, instead of reforming immigration laws to clear their path to citizenship, Arizona’s anti-immigrant law restricts the civil rights of individuals, and is nothing short of racial profiling.”
