“I have consistently assured the public that students would maintain their free MetroCards, and I am pleased that the Senate Democratic Majority was able to make good on that promise today.
 
“The education of our children is a top priority, and families should not have to bear any undue hardships in the pursuit of learning. We must continue to do all we can to provide families with the resources they need to meet that challenge.
 
“I applaud Jay Walder and Mayor Michael Bloomberg in their efforts to continue the MetroCard program.”
