The Port Richmond Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is an active volunteer team established in October 2005. The team has amassed over 40,000 hours of community service by covering all of Staten Island. We are looking to recruit Islanders who want to ‘give back’. The New York City Office of Emergency Management is offering their fall training course, beginning October 6^th. The free classes will be held on consecutive evenings for 10 weeks. NYC CERT instructors are active FDNY, NYPD, and OEM personnel. Classes are approximately three hours long and are interactive with relevant emergency discussions and group building activities. Training includes:

·         Introduction to NYC CERT and Incident Command System

·         High-rise and Utility Emergencies, Transportation, and Building Community Disaster Networks

·         Disaster Medical Operations

·         Fire Safety

·         Light Search and Rescue

·         Police Science and Terrorism Awareness

At the end of the training, volunteers will participate in a disaster simulation, including live "victims" from active CERTs.
