ALBANY -- Senator Daniel Squadron released the following statement upon the Senate's passage of marriage equality:
Tonight, we made history.
With one small bill, we've changed the lives of countless New Yorkers.
As legislators, it's rare that we have an opportunity to vote on something with as personal and immediate an impact on our constituents as marriage equality.
Tonight, we lived up to the values on which New York and this country were founded. We made a statement about the type of government we will have. And we set an example that I hope the rest of the country quickly follows.
Thank you to all the passionate and tireless advocates who have fought day-in and day-out to make this happen, and to Senator Tom Duane and all my colleagues on both sides of the aisle who stood up for true equality. I could not think of a better way to kickoff Pride Weekend.
