Assembly Member Sheldon Silver, Senator Daniel Squadron, Council Member Margaret Chin and Borough President Scott Stringer responded to the restoration of gas service tonight at 26 Madison Street at the Alfred E. Smith public housing complex, following a letter they sent last week urging the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) to fix the outage.
They issued the following statement:
“We are very thankful that Smith Houses residents will be able to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with home-cooked meals, instead of hunched over a hot plate. We applaud NYCHA for moving quickly to restore service in time for the holiday and we urge the agency to develop a comprehensive plan aimed at reducing the number and duration of any future outages. We want to thank Tenant Association President Aixa Torres for her hard work in helping fellow residents cope with this latest outage. We wish everyone a happy and healthy Thanksgiving holiday.”
