Union Settlement Way
José M. Serrano
September 27, 2011
Today Senator Serrano joined Union Settlement Association and other elected officials in the official street re-naming of East 104th Street between Second and Third Avenues to "Union Settlement Way."
Union Settlement Association has been serving East Harlem since its foundation in 1895 by providing social services and support for the community. As one of East Harlem's largest social service agencies, they provide social work programs for children, adults, and the elderly.
"It’s so exciting to witness Union Settlement Association be recognized on the same block on which, for years, they've been serving the East Harlem community,” said Senator Serrano. "Union Settlement Way is a wonderful tribute to an organization that has provided social services to my constituents for generations. Not only will this generation recognize and experience the contributions of this organization, but future generations will now learn about this great organization, as well.”
Also present were U.S Representative Charles Rangel, New York City Council Member Melissa Mark-Viverito and New York City Comptroller John C. Liu.
