July 6, 2011
Senator Jose M. Serrano today joined Bronx community members in the renaming of the intersection of Prospect Avenue and 156th Street in the Bronx to Dra. Evelina Antonetty Way.
Dr. Evelina Antonetty was an exceptional community organizer and civil rights activist who advocated on behalf of people of all races. Under her leadership, the United Bronx Parents (UBP) was formed. The agency provides essential social services and programs for low-income families in the Bronx.
“Dr. Antonetty was an exceptional woman and community leader,” said Senator Serrano. “I’m extremely proud to see her hard work and dedication recognized by the community for which she so fervently advocated. Future generations will now have the opportunity to learn more about this local champion of civil rights, and follow her example by serving their neighborhoods through public service.”
