NEW YORK -- Today, State Senator Daniel Squadron released the following statement commemorating the one-year anniversary of the death of Pvt. Danny Chen:
"Today we remember and honor the life of Danny Chen. His tragedy and the experience he had serving our country is one that no person should ever have, and my thoughts and prayers remain with his family.
"That is why today, and everyday, we are also reminded that we must do everything in our power to prevent such tragedies from occurring again. If one member of our armed forces is hazing and bullying someone, it sullies the entire armed forces and our values as a nation -- and it simply should not be tolerated.
"I will continue to work with my colleagues on the federal, state, and local levels to ensure that there is zero tolerance for this sort of hazing and bullying. In particular, I would like to thank Councilmember Chin, Congresswoman Velazquez, and Senator Gillibrand for their strong leadership and everything they've done to honor Danny's legacy."
