MTA Chair Singles Out Williamsburg L Stop - Which Will See Additional Trains This Year - As Key Example

BROOKLYN -- State Senator Daniel Squadron welcomed MTA Chairman Joseph Lhota's comments on the need to expand the city's subway stations, made at a joint budget hearing in Albany. Chairman Lhota highlighted increasingly-residential Williamsburg and its L train station as particularly overcrowded. 

"The MTA deserves credit for heeding our calls and agreeing to improve L train service with additional weekday and weekend trains this year. Just as L service will expand to meet an ever-increasing ridership, so too must our subway stations," said Senator Squadron. "I'm glad Chairman Lhota recognized the importance of expanding subway stations in growing neighborhoods like Williamsburg, and I look forward to working with the MTA to ensure subway service that truly meets our community's needs."  

This fall, the MTA responded to Senator Squadron's and the community's calls for better L train service and agreed to increase service beginning in mid-2012. The service increase will bring 16 additional off-peak and peak round trip trains on weekdays, 11 additional round trip trains on Saturdays, and seven additional round trip trains on Sundays.
