Northfield Community LDC of Staten Island Receives Grant to Help Staten Islanders Avoid Foreclosure

Northfield Community Local Development Corporation, located at 160 Heberton Avenue, Staten Island, New York, has been awarded a grant by the New York State Office of the Attorney General under the Home Owner Protection Program (HOPP). This funding is specifically to be used to help families avoid foreclosure and remain in their homes.
According to Attorney General Eric Schneiderman: “This program puts homeowners first and will help get our neighborhoods back on track”.
Northfield Community Local Development Corporation has experienced housing counselors on staff who can provide free expert advice on how homeowners can avoid losing their homes. One in ten homes in New York City is either in foreclosure or at serious risk of foreclosure because the mortgage is more than 90 days delinquent. With the awarded funds, Northfield is prepared to assist homeowners in navigating the long and complicated process of applying for loan modifications or other foreclosure prevention services. Northfield recently assisted a couple in retaining their home because they were offered a modification submitted by Northfield LDC that reduced their monthly mortgage payment by 34%. The affordable modified monthly payment enabled the couple to resume their mortgage payments and stay in their home.
Northfield Community Local Development Corporation is a community-based not-for-profit organization located in the Port Richmond section of Staten Island’s North Shore. Since 1978 its mission has been to serve the residents of Staten Island through a wide range of housing services, including home ownership education and foreclosure prevention counseling.
