People with questions about New York State's new gun-control law (NY SAFE Act) can visit www.nysafeact.com or call the toll-free number (855) 529-4867. The website has a question-and-answer section, plus photographs of weapons to help gun owners understand if their gun will now be classified as an assault weapon.
Those who own what is now considered an assault weapon must register with the New York State Police within one year, beginning April 15. Registration is free.
