State Senator John A. DeFrancisco (R-I-C, Syracuse) announced that Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed legislation to restore up to $90 million in funding for programs for people with developmental disabilities.  

“I was very concerned when significant budget cuts for people with developmental disabilities were proposed earlier this year, so I fought hard during legislative session to have these cuts restored,” said Senator John A. DeFrancisco. 

Some of the cuts were restored during the budget process, and commitments were made to target reductions to administrative costs rather than direct services. To the extent that administrative reductions do not sufficiently cover the remaining budget gap, the law allows the state to fund any shortfalls. 

“I am pleased that the State Legislature and Governor Cuomo were able to come to an agreement that will help some of our most vulnerable citizens continue to receive the services they need and deserve,” concluded Senator DeFrancisco.
