(East Harlem, NY) - Senator José M. Serrano joined Council Member Melissa Mark-Viverito and local community members on East 103rd Street and Lexington Avenue for a street renaming ceremony in honor of great Puerto Rican painter, Rafaelo Tufiño. The stretch of East 103rd Street, between Park and Third Avenues, in Manhattan will be renamed as "Rafael Tufiño Way." During the ceremony, Senator Serrano spoke on the importance of maintaining the cultural history of New York City.
"Rafael Tufiño joins the ranks of Julia de Burgos and Tito Puente as Latino trailblazers that helped pave the way in this great city, and whose names now graced the streets of El Barrio," said Senator Serrano. "It is vitally important that we as a city honor our cultural legacy, and this street renaming will ensure that future generations will understand the importance of artists like Mr. Tufiño," concluded Serrano.
