SENATOR TERRY GIPSON ANNOUNCES OPERATION IMPACT FUNDS TO FIGHT VIOLENT CRIME
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY -- Senator Terry Gipson (D-Dutchess, Putnam) today announced increased funding for Operation IMPACT grants toward multiagency law enforcement in Dutchess County.
“One of my top priorities as a State Senator is to ensure my constituents, and all New Yorkers, feel safe and secure in their neighborhoods,” Senator Gipson said. “Operation IMPACT prevents gun violence and reduces violent crime and has proven to be successful.”
Operation IMPACT will see a $340,375 funding increase to boost program resources in Dutchess County. Police departments in the 17 counties that participate in Operation Impact reported a 9% decrease in index crime in the first four months of 2013 as compared with the same period in the previous year. The FBI’s index crimes include rape, murder, robbery, and aggravated assault, and the index is used to monitor the effectiveness of enforcement efforts.
“Increases in funding for the Operation IMPACT program in Dutchess County will make our neighborhoods safer places to live, work and raise a family,” Senator Gipson concluded.
