Unshackle Upstate Gives Griffo Its Third Highest Senate Score
August 20, 2014
ALBANY – Unshackle Upstate, a bipartisan coalition of business and trade organizations representing more than 700,000 companies, has given Sen. Joseph A. Griffo its third highest grade for his votes in the Senate supporting businesses and taxpayers this legislative session.
Griffo scored a 88 out of 100 possible points by the pro-business group. The organization gave the senator favorable marks for his ‘yes’ votes on a series of bills aimed at reducing regulations on businesses. In addition, the group applauded his support of the on-time state budget, as well as his sponsorship of two bills that would limit new taxes and protect businesses from illegitimate unemployment claims.
“For Upstate, its economy and our communities to prosper, we need partners in Albany who understand the negative effects that high taxes, onerous regulations and burdensome mandates have on both businesses and taxpayers. Sen. Joe Griffo has proven through his actions and effort that he will fight Albany’s tax-and-spend mantra and stand up for Upstate,” said Brian Sampson, executive director of Unshackle Upstate.
“I have long stressed that reducing taxes and cutting red tape are the keys to unlocking economic progress in New York, especially upstate,” said Griffo, R-Rome. “I have always tried to vote in a manner consistent with that position, and I’m pleased that a large coalition of businesses has recognized my effort to do right by taxpayers and business owners. I thank Unshackle Upstate and its members for giving me high marks.”
