SENATOR GIPSON WELCOMES SENATOR ANDREA STEWART-COUSINS, FIRST WOMAN CONFERENCE LEADER IN NYS HISTORY, TO DUTCHESS

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – New York State Senator Terry Gipson (D-Dutchess, Putnam) welcomed Senate Democratic Conference Leader Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins to Dutchess County on Saturday, August 2nd, 2014, for the 3rd Annual Breaking Barriers Cultural Arts Expo in Poughkeepsie. Senator Stewart-Cousins was elected by her colleagues to serve as Leader of the Senate Democratic Conference in December 2012, becoming the first female leader of a legislative conference in New York State history.

“I’m honored to have Leader Stewart-Cousins join us for this important event,” said Senator Gipson. “As someone who has broken barriers herself, she is an inspiration to the women and all of the hardworking people here today. This is a wonderful event that brings many different cultures together while promoting the arts and small businesses in our community.”

Senate Democratic Conference Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins said, “In just one term in the State Senate, Terry Gipson has already distinguished himself as an outstanding public servant who is dedicated to his constituents and the entire Hudson Valley.  I want to thank Senator Gipson for inviting me to the 3rd Annual ‘Breaking Barriers Cultural Arts Expo,’ and I look forward to working with Terry, and my colleagues in the Senate Democratic Conference, to break down the barriers to success that so many New Yorkers continue to face.”

Breaking Barriers’ mission is to bridge the gaps between cultures and diverse orientations in our community. The 3rd Annual Breaking Barriers Cultural Arts Expo featured arts and crafts vendors, workshops and more. Both Senator Stewart-Cousins and Senator Gipson visited with attendees and gave remarks.
