STATE SENATOR GIPSON’S STATEMENT ON NYS FRACKING DECISION

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – New York State Senator Terry Gipson (D-Dutchess, Putnam) today issued the following statement on New York State’s decision to prohibit hydraulic fracturing.

“Today’s announcement by the Department of Health and Department of Environmental Conservation was the right decision for our state’s economy and environment.  I have personally visited fracking sites in rural Pennsylvania and I believe that current fracking methods are inadequate when it comes to ensuring our communities’ quality of life.  As always, I encourage further research and efforts to find safe and economical ways to harness natural gas without threatening our health and most precious natural resources. It’s my hope that this decision will be a catalyst for greater investments in such research, as well as in renewable energy here in the Hudson Valley and across New York State.”
