Allows Veterans to Purchase Up To Three Years Of Service Credit in the NYS Retirement System

Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) announced today that Senate bill S4714A passed the Senate unanimously.  This legislation will allow all honorably discharged veterans who are members of the New York State Retirement System to purchase up to three years of service credit for time served in the military.

“Previously, the veteran had to have served during specified periods of war,” said Larkin.  “This bill removes this obstacle and will allow everyone who was honorable discharged to purchase up to three years of their service in the military.  I urge the Assembly to assist our veterans and take up this measure immediately.”

Senate bill S4714A has had overwhelming bipartisan support with 45 senators cosponsoring the legislation and a large coalition of labor groups voicing their support.

The legislation has been sent to the Assembly for action.
