Senator David Carlucci, in partnership with the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, will be hosting a series of seminars on the New STAR Rebate Check program.
This year the legislature passed a new STAR Rebate Check program that will provide up to $2,000 in tax breaks for middle class homeowners. If a homeowner’s school district stays within the property tax cap, they are currently enrolled in the basic or enhanced STAR rebate program and make less than $275,000, they are automatically enrolled in the expanded program, and will be receiving a check for $130 in October 2016. Depending on a homeowner’s income and other factors, they will be receiving a rebate check each year through 2019.
John Wolham, the Real Property Services Administrator for the Southern Region will be explaining the new program and answering questions from participants. Mr. Wolham will also be discussing the extension of the Property Tax Cap, which since 2011 has saved homeowners and businesses throughout New York State $7.6 billion.
