Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) said, “In October of 2014, I hosted a hearing on New York State's Mental Health Supports and Services, entitled, "Raising the Age." After hearing testimony from mental health professionals and families affected by mental illness, it was clear we need a new system that supports our youth, especially those with disabilities.
When dealing with juvenile offenders, it is imperative to focus on rehabilitation, and how we can help these young people reintegrate into our community, and grow into the good citizens they have the potential to be.
I commend Governor Cuomo for accepting the recommendations of the Commission on Youth, Public Safety & Justice, and I look forward to working together on this important issue.
