Senator Rivera Announces Kingsbridge Subway Station to Receive Funding in the State Budget

State to Allocate $1 Million for Accessibly Study in Anticipation of The Kingsbridge National Ice Center
(BRONX, NY) - Today, State Senator Gustavo Rivera announced  that the  Aids to Localities budget bill (S.2003-C/A.3003-C), which passed today with a 60 to 1 vote, included $1 million to conduct an accessibility and capacity study at the Kingsbridge and Jerome subway station in anticipation of the building of the Kingsbridge National Ice Center. The purpose of the study is to determine how the Kingsbridge National Ice Center will impact the ridership of the station. In addition, the study will also assess the cost of building a direct access point between the station and the Kingsbridge National Ice Center and the cost of making the station compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

"Since the inception of the Kingsbridge National Ice Center, we have always said that the transformation of the Kingsbridge Armory should benefit and revitalize the surrounding communities and the Bronx overall. That is why I am incredibly pleased to announce that we were able to secure $1 million in the state budget to help evaluate the capacity of Kingsbridge and Jerome subway station in an effort to help us prepare for the development of the Kingsbridge Armory," said State Senator Gustavo Rivera. "The Kingsbridge National Ice Center will be an important economic engine in our community and this study will give us the knowledge we need to work towards alleviating any strain that may be caused by the increased traffic that will be brought to the station because of the development."
