Klein, Trump Golf Course Partner to Connect Throggs Neck Houses Teens with Good-Paying Summer Jobs

THE BRONX - State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), together with the Trump Golf Course, Bronx Chamber of Commerce and Throggs Neck Houses Residents’ Council, today launched the ‘Call for Caddies’ program to connect local teens from the Throggs Neck Houses with summer employment opportunities at the Trump Golf Links.

“As the warmer months approach and schools let out, many Bronx teens are looking for a summer job to put a little extra money in their pockets and gain real world experience. Through the ‘Call for Caddies’ program, teens at the Throggs Neck Houses will learn the inner workings of a golf course, build new skills and receive trainings in course maintenance  and terminology. Put simply, the ‘Call for Caddies’ program is a hole-in-one – connecting local teens with valuable summer job opportunities and putting them on a path to college and career readiness,” said Senator Jeff Klein.

The Trump Golf Course grand opening earlier this week is symbolic of the dramatic resurgence The Bronx has seen in recent years. As the borough continues to grow and thrive, connecting residents with good-paying jobs through programs like ‘Call for Caddies’ has never been more important.

“We’re very excited to be able to offer a caddy education program for the youth here in the community and hope it will continue for many years to come. This program not only introduces them to the game of golf and its proper etiquette, but also teaches important lessons for success in both life and business. As ambassadors for the course, caddies are a vital part of any golf operation and there are many success stories of very young individuals who began as caddies and are now CEOs and managers of their own companies,” said Joe Roediger, Trump Golf Links General Manager.

“The Throggs Neck Houses Residents’ Council would like to thank Senator Klein for his continued support and commitment to addressing the needs of our residents. We would like to extend a huge thank you for securing the 15 caddy slots at Trump Golf Links which will provide our teens with unparalleled employment experience. Additionally, we would like to thank Donald Trump and his team for their faith in our mission and his dedication to hiring people directly from the Throggs Neck Housing Development. Thank you all for assisting us in our incessant fight to build up our community,” said Monique Johnson, President of the Throggs Neck Houses Residents’ Council.

“The Trump Golf Course, the only tournament-quality course in New York City, invested in our borough.  Today, teens will have a chance to enjoy the course and be ready for summer work,”  said Lenny Caro, President & CEO of The Bronx Chamber of Commerce.

“We thank Senator Jeff Klein for investing in Bronx teenagers through Bronx HIRE. Our specialized caddy program offers participants golf skills as well as vital career and character building lessons, such as leadership, good sportsmanship, and networking  techniques. This opportunity truly helps our young workforce,” said Michelle Dolgow Cristofaro, Chief of Staff of The Bronx Chamber of Commerce and Bronx H.I.R.E. Administrator.

“This is a fabulous opportunity that both the Bronx H.I.R.E. program and Trump Organization are giving young people starting at age 15 to be trained as caddies. They will be able to do this work during the summer months and beyond based on their school schedule. Thanks so much to state Sen. Jeff Klein for this vital program," said the Honorable June Eisland, Eisland Strategies and Vice President of The Bronx Chamber of Commerce.

Teens will participate in a two-week training course that will include instruction on the rules of the game, as well as lessons on golf terminology and course maintenance. ‘Call for Caddies’ is part of Klein’s larger jobs program, Bronx H.I.R.E., which first launched in July 2014.
