State Senator John A. DeFrancisco announced today (3/31/15) that the new State Budget includes an extra $25 million for Upstate transit systems including Centro. The additional money should help to close Centro's $4.5 million budget gap and to maintain all of its busing services.
“Many hardworking individuals rely on Centro to get to and from work, or to medical care and other necessary appointments,” said Senator DeFrancisco. “When I first learned of Centro's deficit, which would result in service cuts, I fought to help get Centro its much needed state support. I'm very pleased to inform Central New Yorkers that this funding is in the budget."
The next step is for the state to rework its formula, so Upstate transit authorities like Centro can continue to get their fair share of state transportation funding.
Centro serves Onondaga, Cayuga, Oswego, and Oneida counties. The extra $25 million will come from transportation funding.
