Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) announced that he has secured $20,000 in state funding for the Hicksville School District to purchase new educational technology.

The district will use the state funds to purchase new electronic SMART boards and instructional technology.  SMART Boards are touch sensitive, computerized blackboards which allow teachers to incorporate the Internet, videos, and manipulate text as part of their lessons. Teachers can also have students actively participate in a lesson by having them use the SMART Boards to search the Internet, write text, or draw diagrams in front of the class.

“SMART Boards are an enormously beneficial resource.  Students are far more likely to understand and retain information when they are engaged and actively participating in learning.  This technology also helps teachers make lessons more interactive, fun and, most importantly, effective.  Enabling the Hicksville School District to get more of these important educational tools into classrooms will benefit both students and teachers,” said Senator Martins.

“We thank Senator Martins for securing this funding and for his support of our educational enterprise and ongoing efforts on behalf of the children we serve,” said Hicksville School District Superintendent Dr. Carl Bonuso.
