SENATOR JEFF KLEIN HOSTS SENIOR SENIOR PROM

Bronx, NYState Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), in partnership with the Hebrew Home at Riverdale and the Kingsbridge Riverdale Van Cortlandt Development Corporation,  hosted Riverdale’s first-ever Senior Senior Prom on Thursday.

The “New York, New York,” themed festivities began as hundreds of senior citizens entered the ballroom on a glamorous red carpet and received corsages and boutonnieres, created by John’s Botany Bay Florist in Riverdale.

Carmel Sullivan and Richard Prendergast were crowned king and queen of the prom and danced their first dance to Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York.”  Children from the Hutchinson Ballroom Dancers dazzled the crowd as they twirled on the dance floor.

A DJ and pianist kept seniors and grade school children moving throughout the afternoon in the ballroom decked out with images of New York’s skyline and the Statue of Liberty. As seniors sat to dine at their tables, complete with matching centerpieces, they listened to songs that might have played at their own high school proms.

“I am proud to present the first-ever Senior Senior Prom in Riverdale this year.  I hope this special afternoon of dancing and fun brought back great memories and created new ones for our seniors,” said Senator Klein.

“We are thrilled to partner with Senator Klein and KRVC on this special occasion.  This will provide a truly memorable experience for the entire Riverdale community,” said Daniel Reingold, President and CEO of RiverSpring Health, featuring the Hebrew Home at Riverdale.

“This event is a great way to bring community members together for a fun afternoon of dancing and socializing. Fun for all ages, a “Senior Prom” is extra special and unique for this age group,” said Tracy Shelton, Executive Director, Kingsbridge-Riverdale-Van Cortandt Development Corporation.
