Ritchie Helps Unveil Monument Honoring 10th Mountain Division Heroes
July 1, 2016
State Senator Patty Ritchie joined community members Friday to help unveil the “Honor the Mountain” Monument at Watertown’s historic Thompson Park.
Located at Tower Square, the new structure pays tribute to the sacrifices of 10th Mountain Division solders and their families. Last year, Senator Ritchie delivered $50,000 to assist with the building of the monument.
“This monument sends a message to all who see it, that the North Country recognizes the selfless sacrifices of our troops and their families,” said Senator Ritchie.
“And, just as this monument will forever stand in Thompson Park, the impact of the 10th Mountain Division, its soldiers and their loved ones will forever be felt here in the North Country.”
Designed by Susan Raymond, a Colorado-based sculptor known for her creation of military themed monuments including the “Fallen Warrior” at Fort Drum’s Memorial Park, the monument contains images depicting the 10th Mountain Division’s history from WWII to more recent conflicts.
