Albany, NY - Late Friday afternoon the New York State Legislature called it a day after last minute negotiations fell apart to approve the State's $152 billion budget making a late budget imminent. While lawmakers are expected to work through the weekend, State Senator Terrence Murphy said the following:
"It is very disappointing that we failed to pass an on time budget. We have a responsibility to those we represent to pass one of the largest budgets in the world. In fact, we should be passing our budgets early."
"Instead, the reality is, inserting public policy into an already incredibly complicated budget process proves time and again to be a failure of Albany. I only hope in the coming days Governor Cuomo focuses more attention on bringing people together to achieve a budget that is a win-win for all New Yorkers."
The legislature plans on working through the weekend in hopes of approving the full budget for 2017-18.
