Senator John A. DeFrancisco (R-I-C, Syracuse) today announced that his bill (S.6938) passed the State Senate. This legislation would designate the Ley and Butternut Creeks in Onondaga County as inland waterways for the purpose of the New York State Coastal and Inland Waterways Program.

The State’s Coastal and Inland Waterways Program was developed to ensure the protection of New York’s coastal and inland water resources and to promote the revitalization of waterfront communities. The program is administered by the Department of State (DOS).

Senator DeFrancisco said, “By adding Ley and Butternut Creeks to the list of inland waterways, surrounding municipalities would then be eligible to apply for certain state and federal funding projects to help protect the creeks and to improve adjacent walking and biking trails. As a result, this would also further local tourism efforts.”

The State Assembly previously passed the bill. It will now be delivered to the Governor for his final consideration.
