Statement from Senator Gianaris on Governor Cuomo's Support for the Effective Background Checks Act

ALBANY, N.Y. – Senator Michael Gianaris issued the following statement after Governor Andrew Cuomo announced his support for the Effective Background Checks Act, which would extend the time for background checks to be completed before a firearm purchase is authorized to 10 days.
 
“I am proud to carry the Effective Background Checks Act and am appreciative of Governor Cuomo’s support. This common sense proposal would save lives by keeping firearms out of the hands of dangerous individuals. I urge my colleagues to pass this legislation before the end of this session to ensure more preventable tragedies do not occur.”
