State Grants Over $1 Million in Communications Funding to Niagara and Orleans

Today, Senator Rob Ortt (R,C,I,Ref-North Tonawanda) applauded the awarding of over $1 million in State Interoperable Communications Grants to Niagara and Orleans Counties. The grants will allow the first responder services of Niagara and Orleans Counties to purchase new communications equipment, expand existing radio coverage, implement next generation 911 technologies, integrate public safety radio channels, and deploy new technologies that allow neighboring counties to link their systems together.
“These funds are crucial if we are to provide the residents of Niagara and Orleans Counties with the best safety services available,” said Sen. Ortt. “Our first responders do an incredible job serving the various communities in Niagara and Orleans Counties, and it is paramount that their communications equipment matches the same elite standard as their skill. Every second matters in the battle between life and death, and ensuring we provide the latest and greatest communications technology will not only make the jobs of our emergency services easier but will help save the lives of our Niagara and Orleans residents.”
Niagara County Emergency Response Services will receive a total of $669,712 and Orleans County Emergency Response Services will receive $403,172. Over the last eight years, the State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services has awarded over $450 million in State Interoperable Communications Grants.
