MTA to Honor Hoylman's Request for Accessibility Upgrades and L-Train Transparency

ALBANY- The MTA has agreed to consider urgent accessibility upgrades at the 7th Avenue subway station, honoring a request made by Senator Brad Hoylman (D/WF-Manhattan) in today’s Senate Transportation Committee hearing. Senator Hoylman’s request comes in light of the death of Malaysia Goodson, who died earlier this week while walking down the staircase at the 53rd and 7th Avenue B/D/E station carrying a baby stroller.
Senator Hoylman said: “At my urging, the MTA has committed to looking into making accessibility improvements at the station where Malaysia Goodson died in my district. As a parent who navigates our city’s subways with a stroller, I understand the urgency firsthand. It is unacceptable that a heavily trafficked station in Midtown Manhattan would lack a functioning elevator, and I’ll be counting the days until this project is completed. We can’t afford to wait.”
Senator Hoylman also pressed the MTA for concrete details surrounding the new L-Train mitigation plan. In response to Senator Hoylman’s questioning, MTA Chair Veronica Hakim agreed to make more information available to the public throughout the month of February.
