NEW YORK, NY – Senator Brad Hoylman (D/WF-Manhattan) released the following statement in response to the President's lawsuit seeking to block the TRUST Act, which authorizes the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance to share state tax return information of elected officials and political appointees with a requesting Congressional committee:
Senator Hoylman said: “The TRUST Act was passed by the New York State Legislature and signed into law by Governor Cuomo and I have every confidence that it will be upheld by the courts.
Trump's lawsuit is without merit. It impugns the integrity of the legislative purpose behind the law. New York State has an interest in supporting the lawful oversight responsibilities of the U.S. Congress.
If Washington won’t stand up for integrity and transparency, New York will. No public official is above the law."
